For the first time in our history, Americans have begun to eschew beer as their drink of choice in favor  of a cocktail or a glass of wine.  Perhaps this is a telling feature of our transitioning society – from a masculine oriented culture to one of a more feminine bent.

Regardless, I’ll continue to order beer.  And, as a second choice, it will be a cocktail.  It will never be a glass of wine.  When I see men ordering wine, I know one of two things – 1 – their wives have reprogrammed them to do so; or 2 – they’re not your male’s male kind of guy.  The beer industry has been slipping in recent years, and has finally reached a point where beer is no longer the first choice of drinks ordered in bars.  I’d say that that has a lot to do with their advertising – how long has it been since we’ve seen a truly compelling beer advertisement.  The Bud ads of yesteryear are no more, unfortunately.  I find this disconcerting in a way, because, anything can be sold these days with enough determination to make that sale and with enough money poured into the right kind of advertising.  I’d say that the beer industry has lapsed in their advertising focus – and that’s really too bad – the world could use a few uplifting beer commercials just about now!
