In case you ate Necco wafers as a child, as I did, and treasured the Valentine’s Heart Candy, then expect to be disappointed soon. If the New England Confectionary Company, established 1847, can’t find a buyer for the company by May, they plan on closing the doors for good. The company typically has produced about four billion rolls of Neccos per year, eight wafers to a roll – with flavors such as chocolate, licorice (my fave!), cinnamon, lemon, lime, orange, wintergreen, and clove. I haven’t had a roll in years, but will still miss their not being around. And, I’ve still been buying the Valentine Heart candy every year – to me, it’s a part of Valentine’s.
